About the Outdoor Pursuits First Aid Courses

Suitable for all outdoor activities whether recreational or work related.  Certificates are valid for three years and fulfil the needs of all the outdoor national governing bodies for their instructor awards, such as ML, SPA, RYA, BELA.

The outdoor environment nearly always means that any casualty has to be looked after for a longer period than is typical in an urban setting. Simple incidents that could be dealt with and concluded speadily with the arrival of an ambulance, or by taking a casualty in a car to a local accident & emergency department when in a town or city can result in a very prolonged wait for help to arrive. Often, the ambulance service will be assisted by Military or Civilian Mountain Rescue Services and or Air Sea Rescue.

From a walk in the hills when you are hours away from help, to an expedition where help may be hours or even days away, all our outdoor and expedition courses look at how to manage the situation and the casualty appropriately.

Our Outdoor Pursuits First Aid Trainers are fully at home in the outdoors, with Military and Civilian experience of the Outdoors, they fully understand the issues, dilemmas and judgments required when dealing with incidents in potentially hostile remote environments where the option of an ambulance arriving on scene to take over the situation is not a viable option.

We follow Health and Safety approved code of practice guidelines. The training is a balance of Theory and "hands-on" practical training.

“It has been shown that people trained in first aid are more safety conscious and have fewer accidents than untrained people.”   RGS Expedition Medicine Handbook
