This course is designed for people Experienced in First Aid, who have additional skills such as but not exclusive to AED operator, Private Ambulance Technician, Military Medic, Medical Gases etc, with basic First Aid Instructional Experience and  who wish to become a key team member within their organisation, expanding their knowledge and skills together with their instructional portfolio enabling them to deliver quality CPR, AED, Airway Management, Oxygen, Entonox, Trauma and other pre-hospital emergency care instruction to individuals and organisations.
 
Instruction is delivered by State Registered Paramedic Resuscitation Training Officers experienced in training Resuscitation, Defibrillation, Airway Management, Trauma and other pre-hospital care skills.
 
There is an Instructor - Candidate Ratio on this course of 1 Instructor per 3 Candidates to ensure Quality.
 
 
The instructor course is delivered in two phases:-
 
 

Phase 1 - A day at the training centre where -

 

 

  • You are assessed on your CPR skills upon arrival

 

  • You undertake teaching practice in the delivery of CPR.

 

  •  You will be expected to have prepared lesson plans and deliver a teaching session session accordingly.

 

  • Debrief on your teaching session 

 

  • All students shall be debriefed of their lesson plans and lesson delivery.

 

You receive further in-depth training in the delivery of the following subjects:

 

  • Emergency Life Support - CPR

                                                         - Concious Choking Casualty

                                                         - Unconscious Choking Casualty

                                                         - Unconscious Casualty as a result of a medical emergency

                                                         - Life Threatening Bleeding  

 

  • Jaw Thrust
  • Oro-Pharyngeal Airways
  • Bag-Valve-Mask Resuscitation
  • Oxygen Therapy
  • Aspiration
  • Entonox
  • AED

     

 

 

 

Day 2 - a day at the training centre where -

 
  • You present your lesson plans
  • You undertake further CPR and AED & Oxygen Therapy training
  • You undertake a teaching session from the lesson plans you have been requested to prepare following training on Day 1

 

 

 

 

 

 

Following completion of the course, Successful candidates shall receive an instructor badge (illistrated at the top of this page), together with a  a certificate showing competence as an instructor in:

 

  • CPR Training
  • Jaw Thrust
  • Bag-Valve-Mask Resuscitation
  • Oro-Pharyngeal Airways
  • Bag-Valve-Mask Resuscitation
  • Oxygen Therapy
  • Aspiration
  • Entonox
  • AED

 

 

 

This course is designed to prepare first aid instructors with the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver lesons in those subjects listed above, which are covered on the course.

  

 

Course Cost

 

£250.00 per candidate

Course Availability Acceptance Criteria 

 

Candidates must have the following:

  • Hold a certificate in AED use (certificate of competence)
  • Hold a current certificate in First Aid
  • Undertaken a CPR & AED assessment in the previous 6 months

 

It is beneficial but not compulsory for candidates to: 

  • Hold a first aid instructor certificate
  • Hold a City & Guilds 7303 certificate
  • Hold a Cert Ed / PGCE
  • Hold other professional teaching qualifications

 

We understand that good instructors operating in the pre-hospital first aid field may not hold any formal teaching qualifications. we will look at each application on an individual basis. Once we have assessed the required information, we shall make a decision on acceptance  for the instructor to attend the course. 

 

Courses are allocated on a needs basis. potential candidates will be placed onto a list and contacted when a course is scheduled to go ahead.
