High Dependency Unit Training Course
NEW FOR 2011
2011 sees the introduction of the Care Quality Stadards Agency as a regulator for Private and Voluntary Ambulance Services in England. This course is designed to bring people working accross the Private and Voluntary Ambulance Sector in England up to a common skill level in order to improve standards.
The need for an Intermediate Tier of Trained Professional Ambulance Personnel able to care for patients of a Higher Dependency Category whilst undertaking the following types of Journeys:
- Category B & C Emergency Ambulance Patients from Home to Hospital.
- Inter Hospital Transfer of High Dependency Patients.
- Between Home and Nursing Home for High Dependency Patients.
- Private Patient Transportation.
- Hospital Discharge of Higher Dependency Patients.
Designed by Experienced State Registered Paramedic Tutors, the EMT(B) Course is delivered over 5 days at our EMT Training venue in South Wales. Students are given an introduction to emergency ambulance working.
Candidates will receive training in the following areas:
The role of EMT(B) & HDU
- Scene safety
- Minimising risk of infection
- Post-incident procedures
- Communicating with patients
- Examination and assessment
- Recognition of respiratory problems
- Common breathing difficulties
- Basic airway management
- Causes of blocked airway
- Opening and maintaining a clear airway
- Choking conscious casualty
- Choking Unconscious Casualty
- Basic life support

- Recovery position
- Automated external defibrillation
- Recognition and initial care of haemorrhage
- Bleeding
- Shock
- Recognition and initial care of :
- Heart attack/angina
- Diabetes
- Stroke
- Epilepsy
- Unconscious patient
- Asthma
- Anaphylaxis
Recognition and initial care of injuries to bones, joints, tendons and ligaments
- Recognition and initial care of burns and scalds
- Recognition and initial care of other trauma related injuries
- Skeletal stabilisation

Course Duration
- Delivered over 5 days
- Course timings 0900hrs to 1600hrs daily
Certification
- IHCD - Edexcel FPoS(B) Endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Valid for 3 Years
- EMT(B) certificate issued by Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Training Agency valid for 3 years
- HSE First Aid at Work Certificate valid for 3 years
- AED Operator

- £399.00 per candidate.
- Where a group books 12 candidates onto the course, we will only charge for 10.
