Help Make a Difference in your community!

Throughout South and East Wales, community first responders have been playing a vital role in saving lives for several years. Although every Category "A" Life Thretening Emergency will get a rapid response from the ambulance service where either a Rapid Response Paramedic or a double crewed emergency ambulance will attend, it is those life saving minutes prior to the arrival of the ambulance staff that can make the difference.

Having a community foirst responder available to respond in a local community can help to save lives.

First Responders can make a difference

First Responders provide vital live-saving treatment within the first minutes of an emergency.

Whether it is in a busy city such as Cardiff or Newport, or a rural area such as Blaencwm, Meardy or Monmouth, the importance of having trained people on hand willing to provide emergency assistance before the arrival of the ambulance service vehicles and staff has been frequently highlighted with many people walking around in our communities that would not have had it not been for the prompt actions of Community First Responders.

The quicker a heart attack victim receives treatment, the greater their chance of survival.

First Responders are in place accross Wales. They have made a positive and prolonged difference to the lives of heart attack victims.

First Responder Training

Community Volunteers are trained by the Welsh Ambulance Service to carry out basic life saving skills, recognise cardiac conditions, perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and how to use a defibrillator.

The Welsh Ambulance Service provides the necessary support needed to continue to carry out the role.

Community First Responder Schemes are an additional resource, which enables people to learn the skills necessary to deliver life saving skills prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

All Community First Responders receive training from ambulance personell. Ambulance Service Team Managers will support responders and provide update training every 6 months.

Who are our First Responders

Community First Responders are members of the public who have all undergone Criminal Records Bureau checks. They are ordinary people who want to help others in their communities. They are milk men, council workers, mothers, fathers, drivers, shop workers, basically, they are just like anyone else in the community, except, the First Responders have been trained by the ambulance service and help to save lives in their communities.

If you live in Wales then why not get in touch.
